Share this article: Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share by Email

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been eating Carne de Espeto (Portuguese meat cooked on skewers) at Portuguese feasts, Portuguese social clubs, Portuguese restaurants, and of course at home. It’s just so good! Anyone that has ever tried it all say the same thing. They also ask how to make the “secret” seasoning. Well it’s simpler than you might think. Want to learn the secret? Read on!

There may be variations on the ingredients involved depending on who makes it, but we have always used the following:

  • 3 Parts Coarse Salt
  • 2 Parts Minced or Granulated Garlic
  • 1 Part Black Pepper

“That’s it?”, you’re thinking. Yup, it’s as simple as that! Mix those ingredients together in a container and sprinkle it on to each piece of meat. Of course the quality of meat makes a difference to the overall taste, so don’t be cheap with the meat. Slide the meat onto the skewers and place them over a nice fire. Enjoy!
